It’s officially football season! And our local UT Austin team was up against #1 ranked Ohio State on Saturday night. The game was dramatic to say the least and provides some great pointers for your trading.
Execute Based on the Present, Not the Past
Texas was favored to win, but by halftime, Ohio State was ahead by multiple scores.
But Texas showed that what happened previously doesn’t have to determine what happens next.
Bringing that to your trading, you may have a lousy moment – you miss a trade, take a loss, or make a mistake.
The next decision still needs to be made based on what’s happening now.
You don’t trade the next setup to make up for the previous one. You execute the next setup correctly based on what’s in your trading plan.
That’s essentially what Texas did.
They stayed in the process long enough for the opportunity to appear. They couldn’t manufacture 20 points all at once. That’s simply not how football works.
The comeback came through three separate scoring drives.
When you think about that in your trading, you do not need one heroic trade to save that rough morning or any poor stretch. You just have to confront the next decision to make and give it your best.
Persistency under Pressure
Texas’ quarterback Arch Manning had some mishaps in that first half. But late in the game, he converted some very crucial downs. Some were such short gains that the home crowd let out groans, but the Texas team kept moving forward even in small bits working toward their next goal.
Successful trading can work in a similar way.
You don’t have to be right all the time. You need to be able to execute when your setup shows, including when some pressure is present.
Professional athletes, especially those operating in team sports, can provide great examples of some of the same tenets that surface in trading that are also part of high-level competition.
And listen, nobody wants a nail-biter in your football team’s game or in trading, but it can happen now and then.
And it’s pretty cool when you can still come out on top.
