One question I've been asked for years is:
“Hima, what's the difference between your first edition Gann book and your second edition?”
It's a fair question because some traders discover the first edition online and wonder if they should try to track down a copy. Others already own one edition and want to know whether the second edition is different.
So I thought I'd revisit the answer.

The First Edition Is Out of Print
My first edition book was published back in 2012 through Financial Times Press and Pearson Education.
Like many traditionally published books, there was a limited print run. Once those copies were gone, they were gone!
Over the years I've seen copies show up on Amazon and other resale sites for hundreds of dollars.
The reason most traders do not need to hunt down a first-edition copy is simple: much of what I learned from publishing that first book helped shape what became the second edition.
Why I Created the Second Edition
During the pandemic, my team and I took the opportunity to revisit the material and create an updated version.
Because we published the second edition in-house, I had MUCH more control over everything that went into the book. That includes the content, the layout, the presentation, and the overall learning experience.
If I ever decide to create a future edition, it would build from the second edition rather than going back to the original.
The second edition became the foundation moving forward.
New Content Was Added
Whenever an author releases a new edition, readers expect more than a new cover.
That was important to me as well.
So I intentionally added new material to the second edition. There is additional content throughout the book, along with an entirely new chapter that was not part of the original release.
One of the concepts covered in that chapter was something W.D. Gann spoke about frequently, and I wanted to present it in a way that modern traders could begin working with and understanding.
The goal wasn't simply to reprint the first book. The goal was to expand it.
Reader Feedback Influenced the Updates
One advantage of having thousands of traders work through educational material is that you learn where people want additional support.
A lot of readers wanted charts that were easier to study and reference. In the first edition, I had less control over how the material was laid out.
With the second edition, we were able to organize charts and explanations in a way that made studying more straightforward.
We also created additional resources that readers could access alongside the book.
Many of the updates came directly from listening to what traders found most helpful.
A Book Is Often the Starting Point
One thing I've learned over the years is that books are a wonderful way to introduce concepts.
They allow you to study at your own pace, highlight sections, revisit ideas, and build a foundation.
At the same time, most traders eventually want more than a book alone can provide. They want examples, discussions, worksheets, coaching, and opportunities to see concepts applied in real market conditions.
That's true whether you're studying Gann or any other area of trading.
A book can open the door. Experience and application are what help bring the material to life.

Which Edition Should You Choose?
For most traders, the answer is straightforward.
The first edition remains a special book for me because it was my first published work. It represents an important point in my teaching journey.
The second edition contains updated material, additional content, improvements based on reader feedback, and serves as the foundation for anything I may create in the future.
If you're looking for a place to begin your Gann studies, the second edition is where I would start.
And if you've ever wondered about the differences between the two books, hopefully this gives you a better sense of how they evolved and why the second edition became the next step in that journey!
