Taylor Swift’s Encore Drop and Your Trading

Taylor Swift just added four encore songs to her historic album, The Life of a Showgirl. It achieved the biggest first week of sales for an album in history when it was released in 2025.

Now, there’s something about Taylor Swift that I think is really important to your trading, and it’s on the subject of popularity.

Just Because It’s Popular…

For the longest time, I was not a Taylor Swift fan at all. In fact, I found her style of singing kind of plain because she has this tendency to almost talk-speak as she expresses the words.

I didn’t love that her songs were all about breakups, and I just didn’t get why she was so popular. But then I heard The Fate of Ophelia, and my journey of becoming a Swiftie began. 🙂

The funny thing is, I had resisted exploring her music for so long partly because it was popular. So I want you to think about what you might be doing in your trading that’s the same.

A lot of traders do this with the most basic part of trading, which is price action. I don’t care what indicator you use, and I don’t care what fundamental news you follow.

The price action of a security is some of the most elemental information you can use in your trading. That’s why I address it on some level in every one of my educational products, going deep on it in Gann Trading Patterns.

Other add-ons to price can help if they’re used correctly, but if you’re using chart analysis to trade and you don’t understand how price action works, or you’re not able to follow it, I do not think you will be very successful in the long run.

So just because something like price action is popular, like Taylor Swift was for me, doesn’t mean it’s overused and should be ignored.

Price Action Is Not One and Done

Swift’s release of the 4 Encore songs brought another thought to mind. Just because you learn some price action analysis at some point in your trading journey, it’s NOT a one and done.

Just like I believe Taylor will keep writing songs, even though now she’s married and everyone’s calling her a “trad wife” and all. I mean, it’s a creative force in her as she expresses herself, so I don’t think it’s going to stop. Maybe the topics and style will change.

And price action on your charts is not going away either. In fact, if you look at the markets over decades, like I have directly experienced, price action will have its moods.

Price action may move faster during high-volatility times. It may slow during quieter periods.

The relationships between markets can become more sensitive too. For example right now the S&P 500 and oil are closely tied because of the Iran war.

There can always be additional markets that become important to pay attention to for some time. Right now, that’s the 10-year yield, given the Fed rate hike last week and what we can expect will be more rate hikes to come.

The market environment changes, and the way price moves along with it changes too.

So, price action is not a one and done.

And apparently neither is Taylor Swift. 🙂
