One of the projects I’ve been working on recently is reviewing forecasts from earlier Ticker Request Live broadcasts. It started because I’m reteaching and updating some of my forecasting material, but as I went back through those sessions, something else caught my attention.
I realized just how many live forecasts had been made over the course of only a couple of months. Some reached their price targets almost exactly. Others didn’t hit with perfect precision but still turned out to be very useful guides for understanding what the market was doing.
As I looked back through those broadcasts, it reminded me why I enjoy analyzing markets live.
Every Ticker Starts with the Same Process
When someone gives me a ticker during Ticker Request Live, one of the first things you’ll usually see me do is either move up to a higher timeframe to get a sense of how that market has been trading, especially if I’m unfamiliar with it, or I’ll begin on the daily chart because it’s a good middle ground for everyone.
From there, I’m identifying recent Price Highs and Price Lows. That’s a very basic concept that I’ve always taught and continue to reinforce throughout my courses.
The relationship between those Price Highs and Price Lows tells me whether there’s an opportunity to forecast, because not every chart is ready for one. Sometimes someone asks me to analyze a ticker and my response doesn’t include a forecast at all. That simply reflects what the chart is showing me at that moment.
If the conditions support it, and if there’s time during the episode, then I’ll move on to building a forecast.
How I’ll Share Forecasts Going Forward
Reviewing those earlier broadcasts also helped me notice something about the way I naturally communicate forecasts.
Many times I was already presenting them in almost the same format. I just hadn’t formalized it or used it consistently every time.
Going forward, when I share a forecast during Ticker Request Live, I’ll generally include the same pieces of information:
- The ticker or market being analyzed
- The timeframe
- The forecasted price target
- The forecasted time target
- The earliest point the forecast could have been calculated
- The price action that would invalidate the forecast
There are multiple parts to a forecast, and I think presenting them consistently makes them much easier to observe and follow over time.
Analysis versus Teaching
If market conditions support a forecast, I’ll usually pause my screen while I conduct the analysis. This is because I’m not attempting to reteach or demo my forecasting techniques during a Ticker Request Live broadcast. I do the work on my own then come back and reveal the finished forecast.
For those TRL viewers who have my Lost Forecasting Trading System, this can become a really valuable homework exercise. You can attempt to identify an opportunity to forecast on your version of that same chart, and then compare your work with what I reveal.
Even if you don’t know the forecasting techniques from my system, you get to observe how the market responds after I make a forecast, and see whether price continues to respect that forecast over time.
The Learning Value of Ticker Request Live
Markets are always changing.
Some weeks present excellent forecasting opportunities. Other weeks become discussions about trend strength, market behavior, risk management, or trader psychology. Every ticker request takes on a slightly different personality because every chart environment is different.
That’s why there is value in attending Ticker Request Live regularly, or watching the replay if you can’t be there live.
Over time, you’re exposed to hundreds of different charts, countless market conditions, and a steady stream of trading lessons that simply come from watching the decision-making process unfold.
I think that’s one of the best ways to continue developing as a trader because you’re learning to observe markets one chart at a time.
